The cake forms a focal point at the wedding breakfast, particularly during the cake cutting ceremony which is traditionally the concluding part of the formalities.

Style and choice varies immensely, from a single cake for a smaller gathering, to multiple tiers concealing tempting combinations of rich fruit, madeira, carrot cake or chocolate. Presentation can be in the traditional style separated by pillars, or arranged on a multi tier cake stand, creating space, therefore making the cake appear larger. Stacked cakes, one directly on top of the other are very popular, as are individual cup cakes which can be decorated in a endless variety of ways.
